| ECOM ATACS We introduce ATACS a battlefield mapping and precision target locating system. which is an electronic position location system that computes its own position on the map and electronically locates the target position coordinates and radios these back to the Gun Position in absolute Lat-Lon coordinates. The usage is simple the ground or aerial OP simply views the target in a binocular sight. The ATACS instantly transmits the type and exact co-ordinates of the target to the gun battery. The artillery today relies on forward OP who ranges targets and radio in relative position information to the gun batteries. This improves artillery fire but the target coordinates still have to be computed by the gunner. Accurate absolute map coordinates are still not readily available. The future rapid pace ground battles would require artillery to have by the minute live precision target information. |
